Saltshaker

Hello to all;

I keep reading today about the lack of Bible knowledge many people have today.We are becoming Biblically weak in knowledge of God's Word. We need to know God's Word because that is how He reveals Himself to us. I was at a meeting one time and the speaker talked about when he was a new pastor at a church in Tennesee and the men wanted to go out fishing at night and invited him to go along. As they got in the boat they could see snakes nearby along the shallow part of the water. They told the pastor, that they would go into deeper water because the snakes won't go there. He compared that to knowing God's Word and dealing with the temptations the Devil presents us with. If we are shallow in our knowledge of God's Word we are vulnerable to the attacks of the Devil. So, by knowing God's Word and, hiding it in our heart then Satan will not be able to win the battles over us. Just what was on my mind today. I know that I need to go deeper also. Let me know what you are thinking.

Good Morning;
78 years ago this day I was born at 5am. I was born at home. Just the way they did it in those days. I think my Grandmother helped my mother with the birth. The Dr. lived around the corner and walked over to complete what had to be done. In fact if anyone in the neighborhood needed a Dr. they would just walk over to his house and get treated. It was 35 degrees and my dad had to go to get some coal to warm up the house. Probably why I like the hot weather so much. I look back at all that has happened since then and what a lot of changes. 1931 means I was a depression baby. It was a time when we didn't have much of anything but, everybody was still happy. My parents house was forclosed on just as it is happening today. I never heard the word poor mentioned. The house still stands at 95 East 24th street and go by it when we get up to Holland, Mi. I look back today and thank God for the parents that He had given me to live with. They modeled for me what it meant to always be thankful. So, I look back and reflect for one day, and then move on ahead.

I haven't been on here for the last several days. I hear of answered prayer and wonder how many times we pray but, are not convinced that God will answer us. Like when Peter was let out of prison and when he knocked on the door to the prayer meeting they couldn't believe that it was Peter. Sometimes those prayers for us are from someone else and we don't even know that they have been praying for us. Thats why it is fun to pray for someone and not let them know that you are praying. Then they get the suprise of an answered prayer. Try that once to pray for someone who isn't aware of your praying for them. I know of an older man I heard about who is cranky and unhappy. I am praying that God will fill the hole in his heart with Love from Him. That whatever is making him unhappy God will remove. Try it once. I would challenge you to take a prayer requests from a telemarketer. I have done it and it works. Let me know about your experiences.

Good Morning:
Saturday was always a special day at our house when I was a kid. We would go to the beach, get things done at home and just relax. I can remember Saturday night was the time to prepare for Sunday and going to church. Part of that was the Saturday night bath but, also being together as a family and just enjoy that time no TV to interfere. It was a time to prepare our hearts also for the worship on Sunday, to listen to God's word being spoken, Sunday school, Christian Endevor [youth group in this day], in the afternoon and, then Sunday night worship again at church. Of course there was the big Sunday dinner after morning church. In the evening visit others from the church after the evening service. So, it was a full day and a fun day to do all these activities. I never disliked going to church then and don't now either. My grandparents even made the Sunday meal on Saturday so that no work was done on Sunday except to feed the animals on the farm. You can see that times have really changed haven't they. I would like to read about what your Saturdays were like when you were a kid.

Good morning from the saltshaker.

It seems to be coming together now and that feels good. I am thinking about how we communicate with eachother now. I remember when my parents go their first telephone. It was a party line and about 6 people on the line and you could listen in to anyone on the phone in another house. Their first phone number was 3926. That was it. Let me know if you remember your first phone number. Long distance was not heard of unless you could spend a lot of money to do that. People had codes like is Jack there. To tell someone they arrived safely and not pay for the call. It was person to person and if they weren't there the call would be free. Today with skype and the internet and cell phones we can contact anyone anywhere in the world instantly. Quite something isn't it. But in some ways the old way wasn't so bad. I probably go back further than most of you but, let me know what you think of this age of instant communication. I think that all this communication is evidence of our need to talk to eachother.

saltshaker

I am starting a new adventure in blogging. It will take some time to teach this old dog the new trick. I have picked saltshaker as the title for the blogs that I send out with, Colossians 4:6 which says "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." NIV.
I hope that as I get more messages out there they will taste good to you. I will see just where this takes us. I am praying that some will find hope as we share together. In the next blog I will tell more about myself.
